As well as being the teacher and mentor of several of today's leading rock guitarists, Joe Satriani is widely regarded as being one the instrument's most creative and technically accomplished exponents who is held in high regard by fellow guitarists and his other peers in the music business. In the mid 80's, after years learning his craft and teaching, he embarked on his own highly-successful solo career. His 1987 ground-breaking second album, 'Surfing With The Alien', was an overnight success which went gold and established him as one of rock's top guitarists. Over the years his name has featured regularly at the top of polls in many leading guitar magazines around the world. An hugely-influential guitarist himself, Satriani's own influences range from such jazz greats as Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery, to his rock heroes Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Richie Blackmore - he turned down an offer to replace Blackmore in Deep Purple in order to pursue his own solo career. Very much a guitarist's guitarist, over the course of the 18 albums he has made since his 1986 debut, he has developed his own highly-distinctive sound, fearlessly experimenting into the instrument's sound possibilities. Over the years Satriani has received 15 Grammy nominations and has sold over 10 million albums worldwide.
