Salvador Allende was the popularly elected socialist President of Chile. He was killed in a right wing military coup on September 11, 1973. Many Allende ers suspected that United States and the CIA were heavily involved in the coup. This is 2004 documentary about Allende that follows him through the Presidential campaign, the election and the coup d' etat in which he was killed. Patricio Guzman directed the documentary. The documentary shows how Allende invigorated the Chilean population, why the Chilean military and elite viewed him as a threat and it explore Nixon and the CIA's involvement in the coup.
