Based on a true story, Shock Corridor is a gripping psychological thriller from 1963 directed by Samuel Fuller. The film stars Peter Breck as Johnny Barrett, a determined journalist who checks into a mental institution in order to solve a murder case. Barrett poses as a patient with a delusional disorder and uses fellow patients' innermost secrets to get closer to the truth about a killing at a nearby nuclear plant. He hopes to win a Pulitzer Prize by writing an expose on the facility, which he believes to be responsible for the murder.
Constance Towers plays Cathy, Barrett's stripper girlfriend who is concerned for his safety as he descends deeper into the madness of the facility. Gene Evans plays the sympathetic but stern Dr. Menkin, who is trying to help the patients while also attempting to keep Barrett safe.

For example, when one patient describes a dream, the set transforms into a surreal dreamscape before the audience's eyes. Another dramatic moment takes place during a thunderstorm, as the sound of raindrops hitting the window pane evolve into the constant hum of an electrical generator.
Although Shock Corridor was made in the 1960s, it remains relevant and poignant today. The film tackles issues such as racial inequality, nuclear power, mental health, and the responsibility of the media in the pursuit of the truth.
